NIDEC ASI PRESENTS ITS LATEST BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY AT ENERGY STORAGE EUROPE 2016 IN DÜSSELDORF

The global industrial solutions leader joins 140 exhibitors of the energy sector
at the fifth edition of the world’s largest annual energy storage trade show,
taking place in Düsseldorf, Germany from March 15-17, 2016.
DÜSSELDORF, March 15, 2016 – From March 15 to 17, Nidec ASI will be presenting its latest technologies for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at the fifth edition of the annual Energy Storage Europe trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany. The energy storage sector, which has seen significant growth in recent years, continues to be a key market for Nidec ASI, constituting 20% of its business in Fiscal Year 2015.

The industrial solutions provider also seeks an entry into the North American market with the construction of a UL-certified 1500V drive and its recent appointment of Sales Director Matteo Rizzi to focus on BESS and PV projects. Nidec ASI provides a total of 603 MW of turnkey solutions—such as PV, micro grid and BESS projects—to 15 countries across the globe, including Germany, France, Italy, Romania, Greece, Brazil, India, Algeria, Morocco, Chile, the Dominican Republic, French Guiana, Réunion, and the Maldives.

“Energy storage is a highly strategic sector for Nidec ASI,” said Giovanni Barra, CEO of Nidec ASI. “With our innovative Power Management System, first-class room-saving packaging solutions and installment of well above 100 MW of battery energy projects alone, Nidec ASI is a key player in the storage of Energy and Power Stabilization. Our presence at Energy Storage Europe is an excellent opportunity for us to forge new relationships with both local and continental energy players.”

At the end of 2015, Nidec ASI landed a 70 million Euro EPC contract with German utility STEAG for the supply of multiple systems of energy storage for a total capacity of 90 MW. The awarding of this project confirmed the company’s growing expertise in the utility-scale sector, particularly in the past few years. Boasting an excellent track record with similar projects for the French Islands—including La Réunion, Corsica, and French Guiana—and also supporting Italy’s Terna and Enel Green Power overseas with the construction of a smart micro grid in Chile, Nidec ASI has extensive experience in the field and has grown to become one of the market’s leading innovators and players.

With an installed base of more than 500 MW, Nidec ASI offers competitive, high-performance solutions that can be easily tailored to meet diverse grid requirements. The enterprise’s Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) services and turn-key projects range from large-scale solar power stations to smart micro grids, both grid-tied and off-grid.

Nidec ASI was renamed as such in 2012 when Nidec, a Japanese multinational corporation listed on both the U.S. and Japanese Stock Exchanges, acquired Ansaldo Sistemi Industriali (ASI) SpA, an Italian multinational that can trace its roots back to 1853. The company is a provider of customized solutions for a range of industrial applications worldwide. Operating from offices in North America, France, Germany, Romania, the United Arab Emirates, Southeast Asia, Russia, China and Japan, its markets include petrochemical, energy, steel, marine, and industrial automation. Nidec ASI specializes in heavy-duty applications requiring high power and performance, including inverter and converter power electronics, industrial process control and automation, motors and generators.

As of 2015, Nidec ASI has a portfolio of orders worth about 400 million Euro, with an installed base on more than four continents.
